Navigating the NDIS can feel overwhelming, particularly when you are trying to balance everyday family life, therapies, appointments and caring responsibilities. One of the most common issues I see is families arriving at their annual review feeling rushed, underprepared, or unsure whether their child’s current NDIS plan is truly meeting their needs.
Booking a free consultation gives families the opportunity to pause, review, and plan ahead — before problems arise.
Reviewing Your Current NDIS Plan
A consultation allows us to carefully review your child’s existing NDIS plan and goals. Many plans were created years ago, often when a child was much younger, and may no longer reflect their current functional needs. Goals can become outdated, funding can be misaligned, and important supports may be missing altogether.
Together, we look at whether your child’s plan is still fit for purpose, whether the goals align with their daily challenges, and whether the funded supports realistically match what is required.
Reflecting on the Past 12 Months
An essential part of preparation is reviewing what has actually happened over the last 12 months. This includes:
- progress made through therapy
- areas where progress has stalled
- emerging behaviours, safety risks or care needs
- increased demands on families and carers
This reflection is critical because the NDIS is outcomes-focused. Understanding what has improved — and what has not — helps determine what supports are reasonable and necessary going forward.
Understanding Roll-Over Plans
Many families experience roll-over plans, where a plan is extended with little or no reassessment. While this may feel convenient at the time, roll-overs often result in plans that are no longer appropriate. Children change quickly, particularly in early childhood and school transition years, and a roll-over plan can mean missed opportunities for funding adjustments, new supports, or increased intensity of therapy.
A consultation helps you decide whether accepting a roll-over is appropriate or whether it is time to request a full review.
Funding Periods – Knowing What You’re Really Working With
Another area of confusion is funding periods. Many families are unsure how their funding is released, what quarterly or monthly allocations mean, and how this affects therapy access. During a consultation, we unpack:
- how much funding is actually available per week, month or quarter
- whether funding is front-loaded or restricted
- whether the current structure supports consistent therapy
Understanding funding periods allows families to plan therapy effectively and avoid running out of funds too early — or underusing them.
Preparing Evidence for Your Annual Review
Strong evidence is the foundation of a successful NDIS review. This includes therapy reports, progress data, functional assessments and family impact information. One of the biggest mistakes families make is starting this process too late.
Ideally, review preparation should begin around four months before your plan end date. This allows enough time to:
- request updated therapy reports
- collect meaningful progress data
- align evidence with NDIS legislation and goals
- identify gaps or risks early
A free consultation helps map out exactly what evidence is needed and when.
Why a Free Consultation Matters
This initial consultation is about clarity, not commitment. It gives families a safe space to ask questions, understand their options, and feel confident about the next steps. Whether your plan is ending soon or you are simply unsure if it still fits, early advice can prevent stress, delays and poor outcomes later.
Preparing early is one of the most powerful advocacy tools families have — and it starts with a conversation.
